Can Steadyracks be used in transport

We receive communication for customers and future customers on the daily. This comes over the phone, on our social pages, in our direct messages, via email and the reviews on our website. Our current customers are always so friendly and generous with us, offering their praise and gratitude for freeing up space they hadn’t had in a long time, reviewing our racks online and proudly sharing pics of their Steadyrack installs. The three most common enquires we get from our soon-to-be customers are 1) Which rack is right for my bike?, 2) How can we maximise our space with multiple racks? and 3) Can Steadyracks be used in transport? Steadyracks are ideal for transporting bikes because they are cradled in the rack by the tyre, which acts as a shock absorber during transport and prevents the bikes from being damaged. Our racks offer the same space saving and ease of use in transport as they do in a static installation. But there is also an additional major advantage of saving time, because there’s no need to break the bikes down or remove the front wheels as with some conventional transport storage. Some Steadyrack features for transport: Saves Space – More Bikes in the trailers Easy to Use – Same loading and unloading method as static installations Saves Time – No need to break down the bikes or remove the front wheels There are numerous examples of our racks being used for transporting bikes, such as the last two Commonwealth Games and European Olympics in Baku, where Steadyracks were used to transport bikes to and from events. At Steadyrack’s HQ we have a purpose-built frame with Steadyracks attached that we use for transporting bikes to and from events and shows, which is often loaned to events and teams. Several of our customers have also installed our racks in vans and trailers for transporting bikes and have used Velcro straps to secure the bikes in the racks during transport (see attached photos). The method that we recommend for loading and securing the bikes in the racks is very important to ensure that there is no risk of damage. Each bike needs the front wheel to be strapped into a rack with two straps. One positioned at the top of the rack and a second at the entry point of the lower arm (see bottom image on the left). The position of the Velcro straps is critical to preventing the bikes from falling out of the racks or from causing damage during transport. Especially heavier e-bikes. The lower arms are designed to carry heavy bikes but the added pressure from a trailer bouncing up and down on a road surface will cause the lower arms to bend. The straps are positioned as per the photos to completely prevent the wheel from moving up and down or forward and back. This means no real pressure is placed on the lower arm from the trailer bouncing up and down during transport. We also suggest wrapping a long bungee cord or a strap across all the bikes once they are strapped into the racks. This will prevent them from folding side to side during braking and acceleration. Check that there is no metal to metal contact when they are folded and if there is use some kind of protection wrapped on the impact area to prevent damage from rubbing or bumping into each other during transport. You can also add protection to any contact points that aren’t covered on the bikes once loaded as well. So, the answer YES, Steadyracks can be used in transport.
